Ultraviolet (UV) radiation dosimetry is crucial for assessing biological hazards from environmental radiation, occupational exposure, medical therapy, and industrial applications. This comprehensive review examines various dosimetry methods, including spectroradiometric instruments, biological dosimeters, electronic data loggers, chemical dosimeters, thermoluminescence techniques, and emerging photochromic materials. Each method offers distinct advantages and limitations for different applications, from personal exposure monitoring to environmental assessment and therapeutic dose control. The complexity of UV dosimetry arises from wavelength-dependent biological and chemical effects, requiring specialized measurement approaches that account for spectral sensitivity, temporal factors, and environmental conditions. Understanding these methods is essential for accurate UV exposure quantification and the development of appropriate protection strategies across diverse application domains.
