In the present work, response of CR-39 nuclear track detector in the 241Am-Be neutron field after receiving 0.5 mSv of personal dose-equivalent is measured experimentally. It is also modeled using Geant4 simulation toolkit. In the developed model, it is assumed that if a secondary charged particle is generated in the thickness of the detector which will be removed after chemical etching and its kinetic energy is greater than a threshold value, the track will be formed and its effect will be registered on the remaining thickness of the detector. Results obtained, reveal that the experimental and modeled responses are in agreement. Furthermore, it is determined that both elastic and inelastic scatterings of neutrons contribute to the track formation. Overall, the model does not depend on the neutron energy and can be used for predicting the response of CR-39 detector in other neutron fields. Also, the calculated responses can be applied in order to modify the response of this detector in the fields with energy spectra different from the calibration field.
