In this study, aluminum oxide dosimeter doped with carbon impurities, with chemical formula of α-Al2O3: C and commercial name of TLD-500 was used. Optical effects of ionizing radiation and UV light on TLD-500 discs and powder as well as the effect of fluorescent lamp on the crystal were investigated. Results of irradiation with Cobalt-60 source which were repeated for at least three dosimeters indicated that the response was linear up to 6 Gy. Evaluating the effects of UV and ionizing radiations displayed a reduction in luminescence peak intensity. We also performed the different experiments (ATR and FT-IR) which show, the high sensitivity to the light with different wave length i.e. Sun light, IR, UV, Fluorescent.
