Recently, Slot scanning imaging system is a new imaging system. This imaging system is designed to sweep the object in a linear manner with a narrow beam. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of filter thickness on the contrast of images obtained from simulation of slot scanning imaging system using GATE code. First, the effect of additional aluminum filter thickness from unfiltered to 4 mm aluminum on the energy spectrum of X-rays emitted in the imaging system was investigated. Then, the filtering effect was evaluated by designing a contrast test phantom that includes filters with different copper thicknesses to determine the contrast to noise ratio (CNR).
The results showed that by increasing the thickness of the filter on the beam, the beam will be softer and its low energy and useless beams will be removed. Also, due to the fact that by adding a filter with a thickness of 2 mm, the contrast reduction to noise is less than 10%, so the optimal filter thickness for the slot scanning imaging system was 2 mm aluminum filter to not lose image quality. The results of this study can be used to evaluate the patient dose in incisional scanning imaging.
