Abstract

The current study investigated the impact of different lengths of Pyrex insulators on the intensity of soft X-ray (SXR), hard X-ray (HXR), and ion emission generated by a 4-kJ plasma focus device (APF), simultaneously. The insulator material used was Pyrex, and its length was varied from 30 to 60 mm. Three different neon filling gas pressures, namely 6, 7, and 8 Tor, were utilized in the experiments. The findings indicate that the length of 45 mm yields the maximum ion emission, whereas a 50 mm insulator produces higher intensities for both HXR and SXR. To obtain the best performance of the device considering all outputs, a mathematical analysis is employed, resulting in a value named as PN. Based on the results of the analysis, the best performance is achieved with a length of 50 mm and a gas pressure of 8 Torr.
