Safety is the most important issue with significant political, social and economical influences in the critical industries especially in nuclear and aviation. Reliability and safety in these systems is the premiere goal among the other objectives such as economics. In this study, applied risk management methodologies are reviewed for both aviation and nuclear industries. Besides the risk management, survey for achieve a high level of safety is another goal in this review. Furthermore, issues such as safety culture, safety management system, human factors, defense in depth principle and their important role in safety enhancement are explained. Supervisory role and importance of regulatory bodies in maintaining and promoting safety is described. This key function is accomplished by Iran Nuclear Regulatory Authority and National Civil Aviation Organization for nuclear and aviation industries, respectively.
